- "Sexual Perversity in Chicago and The Duck Variations" David Mamet -

- Sexual Perversity in Chicago -

"Joan: Men.
Deb: Yup.
Joan: They're all after one thing.
Deb: Yes. I know. (Pause)
Joan: But it's never the same thing."

"Dan: I love you.
Deb: Does it frighten you to say that?
Dan: Yes.
Deb: It's only words. I don't think you should be frightened by words."

"Deb: "Thank you" (Pause) Is that right?
Dan: Fuck you.
Deb: No hard feelings.
Dan: Who said there were?
Deb: You know there are.
Dan: Then why say there aren't?"

- The Duck Variations -

"G - Ducks Like to go...
E - Yes?
G - Where it's nice...
E - Ehhh?
G - At that time!
E - Of course.
G - And they're made so they just go. Something inside says it's getting a little cold... a little too cold...
E - Like humans, they don't like cold.
G - And there they go.
E - There they go.
G - And the same when it's warm.
E - They come back."

"E - There's nothing you could possibly name that doesn't have a purpose. Don't even bother to try. Don't waste your time.
G - I'm in no hurry.
E - It's all got a purpose. The very fact that you are sitting right here right now on this bench has got a purpose.
G - And so, by process of elimination, does the bench.
E - Now you're talking sense.
G- Darn Tootin'.
E - The law of the Universe is a law unto itself.
G - Yes. Yes.
E - And woe be to the man who fools around.
G - You can't get away with nothing.
E - And if you could it would have a purpose.
G - Nobody knows that better than me.
E - ... Well put."

"E - No. I don't believe they can fly until later life.
G - But it's possible.
E - It's possible, but you're wrong.
G - ... As a matter of fact I do remember reading somewhere that many small ducks do possess the ability to fly at birth.
E - I do think you are mistaken.
G - No. It could be... But no.
E - Yes. I believe you're sadly wrong.
G - No. I wouldn't swear to it...
E - No.
G - But I'd almos swear I've read that somewhere...
E - Yes, I'm fairly sure you're wrong on that one point.
G - Some little-known group of ducks.
E - No. All my knowledge of nature tells me I must say no.
G - A very small group of ducks.
E - I can not let that by.
G - But I think...
E - It's possible you misread the...
G - Possibly, but...
E - No, no. No. I must still stick to my saying no. No.
G - Perhaps I misread it. What a thing, however. To be able to fly. In later life."
